The best way to mow a lawn

  DO...
Mow only in daylight, when the grass is dry.
Wear heavy-duty shoes with nonslip soles.
Check your yard for any debris or objects, such as toys that could pose a hazard if you mowed over them.
Wear the right clothes-long sleeved shirts and pants.
Keep your children and pets out of the mowing area.
Change your mowing direction each time you mow. If you mowed in a horizontal path last week, mow diagonally or vertically this week.
Remember the one-third rule: cut only one third the height of the grass during any one mowing. Cutting more can damage the lawn, inviting disease.
It's ok to cut slightly more than one-third the height of the grass during the first mowing of the season to help eliminate dormant leaf blade tissue.
Take special care when mowing hills and inclines. Always mow across an incline or hill with a walk-behind mower. Mow up and down the incline, never across, with a riding mower.
  DON'T...

Don't mow wet lawn or late in the day when the light is dim.

Don't let the kids or pets play in the yard while you are mowing.
Don't wear trainers or sandals.
Don't let the kids operate or ride on riding mowers.
Don't cut your lawn in the same direction each time. The grass will flatten out, making it hard to attain an even, clean cut.
Don't "scalp" your lawn so that you will have to cut less often.
Don't mow an incline that's steep (15 ft or more) so that balance and control are an issue.
